COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Conference Interpreting at the University of Galway is structured to provide a rigorous, practice-based learning experience, equipping students with the professional skills required for high-level multilingual communication. The program is delivered over one year and carries a total of 90 ECTS, combining compulsory and optional modules that balance theoretical knowledge with intensive hands-on interpreting practice. Research Methodology trains students in methods for critical analysis and scholarly inquiry, enhancing their ability to evaluate interpreting processes and outcomes. Practical interpreting modules form the backbone of the program, with Ateangaireacht Leantach I / Consecutive Interpreting I and Ateangaireacht Chomhuaineach I / Simultaneous Interpreting I ensuring that students gain foundational competence in both consecutive and simultaneous interpreting modes. Optional modules such as Ateangaireacht Leantach II / Consecutive Interpreting II, Ateangaireacht Chomhuaineach II / Simultaneous Interpreting II, and the third-level extensions of these courses allow students to refine and expand their practical expertise under guided supervision, developing advanced linguistic agility, note-taking, and memory skills essential for professional interpreting.
