COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM in Peace Operations, Humanitarian Law, and Conflict offers a comprehensive program for students seeking to work in international law, conflict resolution, and humanitarian practice. The curriculum is designed to provide an in-depth understanding of the legal frameworks, policy challenges, and operational realities of peace operations and conflict settings. Core modules include International Humanitarian Law, which examines the rules governing armed conflict, the protection of civilians, and the responsibilities of states and non-state actors, and International Peace Operations, which explores the planning, implementation, and evaluation of multinational peacekeeping and peacebuilding missions. Students also complete a substantial dissertation, enabling them to conduct independent research and apply legal theory to practical and contemporary issues in conflict zones or humanitarian contexts. In addition to these core modules, students can select from a wide range of optional modules, allowing them to tailor their studies to specific interests, such as international refugee law, transitional justice, counter-terrorism, climate justice, human rights law, digital transformation in law, EU competition law, and advanced intellectual property law. The program also provides opportunities to explore intersections between law, public policy, and social justice through modules like advocacy, activism, public interest law, and criminology. With this flexible structure, students develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing them for careers in international organisations, governmental and non-governmental agencies, legal practice, and policy-making institutions. Graduates emerge equipped to engage with the complex legal, ethical, and operational dimensions of conflict and humanitarian work, with the analytical, research, and practical expertise needed to contribute effectively to peace operations, the protection of human rights, and the advancement of international law in challenging environments.
