COURSE CURRICULUM
The BSc in Occupational Therapy is a four-year honours program designed to prepare students for professional practice in enabling individuals to participate fully in daily life, regardless of physical, cognitive, or social challenges. Throughout the program, students study core modules in Anatomy, Physiology, and Psychology to understand the structures and functioning of the human body and mind, alongside specialist Occupational Therapy modules covering Physical Disability, Paediatrics, Older Adults, Neurology, and Mental Health. Students also learn about Evidence-Based Practice, Research, Fundamentals of Occupational Therapy, and Management, ensuring they are equipped to provide high-quality, evidence-informed care. Accredited by the World Federation of Occupational Therapy (WFOT) and regulated by CORU, the course guarantees recognised professional qualifications. Students complete over 1,000 hours of Practice Education through four supervised placements in healthcare, education, and community settings across the country, gaining practical experience under the guidance of qualified Occupational Therapists. In the first year, students acquire foundational knowledge of human biology and psychology and are introduced to occupational therapy theory and basic practice skills, with a short placement providing insight into real-life patient experiences. In the second year, the focus expands to neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and paediatrics, while students develop an understanding of occupational science and social policy, alongside their first extended placement. The third year emphasises group-based and self-directed learning, research methods, evidence-based practice, and specialist areas such as cognitive neuropsychology, with further placement experience. In the fourth and final year, students consolidate their knowledge and skills through two advanced placements, undertake an individual research project, and develop professional management competencies, preparing them to enter practice confidently. Interdisciplinary learning with other healthcare students and engagement with community partners throughout the course ensures graduates are ready to meet the complex and evolving needs of individuals and society.
