COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Commerce (BComm) at University of Galway provides a comprehensive foundation in core business principles while allowing students to specialise in a chosen area during their final year. The program is carefully structured so that the first two years build broad knowledge across key disciplines, followed by advanced study and practical preparation in the third year. In Year 1, students are introduced to the fundamentals of business through modules such as Introduction to Management and Financial Accounting, Principles of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, Business Information Systems and Information Management for Business, Mathematics and Statistics for Business, Management and Enterprise, and Foundations of Marketing Thought. These modules establish essential analytical, quantitative, and organisational skills. In Year 2, students deepen their understanding of business operations and strategy through Macroeconomics and the Business Environment, Management Accounting I, Organisational Psychology, Business Finance I, and Marketing Management, while also choosing elective modules such as Business Law II or The Psychology of Consumer Behaviour to begin exploring potential specialisations. In Year 3, students select one specialist pathway and complete advanced modules designed to prepare them for professional careers or further study. Specialisation options include Accounting and Performance Measurement, Economics and Public Policy, Human Resource Management, Marketing Management, Digital Business and Analytics, Finance, Business Law, International Business, Enterprise, and Management, enabling graduates to tailor their expertise to their career ambitions in a competitive global marketplace.
