COURSE CURRICULUM

The Law (BCL) and Business degree at University of Galway is a four-year integrated program that combines a full legal education with core commercial disciplines, preparing graduates for careers at the intersection of law and business. Students earn a Bachelor of Civil Law while building strong foundations in accountancy, economics, digital business, and management, alongside advanced skills in research, analysis, advocacy, and problem-solving. In Year 1, students are introduced to key legal principles through Constitutional, Contract, and Tort Law, while also studying Financial and Management Accounting and developing academic skills in legal research and writing; optional modules include Digital Business, Economics, or a legal language. Year 2 deepens legal and commercial knowledge with core modules in Criminal Law, Company Law, and European Union Law, alongside Mooting, which strengthens courtroom advocacy and oral argument skills, plus a range of optional subjects and continued language study where applicable. In Year 3, students choose between a professional work placement in a law firm, corporate organisation, or public body, or a year studying abroad at an international partner university; those studying Legal Irish divide their year between the Gaeltacht campus in An Cheathrú Rua and an Irish-speaking legal placement. In the final year, students complete advanced core subjects including Equity Law, Land Law, and Commercial Law, alongside a guided research essay, and select a specialist stream such as Accounting, Economics, Digital Business and Analytics, Law and Innovation, Legal Professions, Management, Taxation, Language, or General, enabling focused career preparation for legal practice, corporate roles, or postgraduate study.
