COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Education (Computer Science and Mathematical Studies) at University of Galway is a four-year program that integrates education, computer science, and mathematics to prepare graduates for teaching at post-primary level. The degree provides a strong foundation across all three disciplines, creating space for innovation, creativity, collaboration, and lifelong learning while contributing to technological and societal advancement. Throughout the program, students study education, computing, and mathematics each year, ensuring balanced academic and professional development. In first year, students engage with core principles in education, computer science, and mathematics, with all modules beginning from a common baseline so that both experienced programrs and beginners are equally supported. In second year, students continue modules across the three disciplines; education classes are typically small and interactive, while computer science and mathematics modules are shared with students from other programs across the university, broadening academic exposure. Third year maintains this integrated structure across both semesters, alongside extended professional preparation. In final year, students undertake a block school placement in a post-primary school in Ireland during the first semester, gaining substantial classroom experience, while the second semester focuses on advanced computer science and mathematics modules and a final year project.
