COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts with Human Rights at University of Galway offers a multidisciplinary introduction to the theory and practice of human rights, examining how rights are protected and promoted at global, regional, and national levels while developing strong critical thinking and research skills. Students engage with pressing issues such as migration, equality, justice, LGBTIQ+ rights, and gender equality, preparing for careers in NGOs, public service, advocacy, and related fields. In Year One, students take Human Rights modules alongside three Arts subjects chosen from a wide range of options grouped across several subject areas, allowing diverse combinations based on interest and career goals. In Year Two, students continue Human Rights modules, including topics such as The Regional Protection of Human Rights and Contemporary Issues in Human Rights Protection, while progressing with two of their original Arts subjects; certain subjects like Mathematics have specific progression requirements. Year Three is dedicated بالكامل to Human Rights, with Semester One offering specialised modules primarily from Law and Political Science, such as Introduction to Law, European Union Law, Equality and Law, Environmental Law, and Information Technology Law, while Semester Two involves a work placement, study abroad opportunity, or an Applied Human Rights Project. Language students may complete placements abroad or in Irish-language settings where relevant. In Year Four, students return to complete advanced modules in their two Arts subjects, often integrating Human Rights perspectives into final-year research. The ECTS structure balances Arts and Human Rights across the four years, culminating in a fully immersive third year focused entirely on professional and academic development in the human rights field.
