COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Software Development: International Systems at UL is a two-year full-time, campus-based conversion program designed for graduates from non-computing backgrounds who want to move into the software industry. It combines lectures, labs, tutorials, guided research, and reflective practice, supported by continuous feedback from faculty and peers. The program builds a strong foundation in programming, software engineering, databases, web technologies, artificial intelligence, and internationalisation of software systems. In Year 1, students begin with core modules such as programming for AI, database systems, initial and intermediate programming, web development, software engineering requirements, human-computer interaction, applied business statistics, and language engineering. These modules develop both technical and analytical skills while introducing global software development practices. Year 2 focuses on more advanced topics including software testing and inspection, data structures and algorithms, mobile application development, and text analytics with natural language processing. Students also engage with research methods through philosophy of research and progressively complete a dissertation across two modules, allowing them to define, develop, and present a substantial research project. The dissertation is submitted at the end of Year 2. Overall, the program prepares students for international software development careers by combining practical software skills with research capability and an understanding of global system design and application contexts.
