COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Human Nutrition and Dietetics at UL is a two-year, full-time graduate program delivered through a combination of campus teaching, practice-based learning, and clinical placements. It leads to a Level 9 master’s qualification and is designed to prepare students for professional practice as dietitians. Learning takes place across autumn, spring, and summer semesters and blends lectures, workshops, experiential learning, reflective practice, supervised research, and continuous feedback through group and individual assessments. In Year 1, students build core foundations in areas such as nutrition communication, lifecycle nutrition, dietetic assessment using clinical frameworks, food science, medical nutrition therapy, epidemiology, and clinical dietetics, alongside research methods and food service systems. Practical experience is introduced through simulations and an 8-week clinical placement. A structured research project begins in parallel. In Year 2, students progress to advanced clinical nutrition, public health and community nutrition, healthcare management innovation, and interprofessional learning. They complete a community-led placement and a second clinical placement focused on developing independent professional competence in complex cases, in line with CORU standards. The research project is completed through analysis, writing, and dissemination. Overall, the program integrates theory, clinical practice, and research to prepare graduates for safe, evidence-based dietetic practice in hospitals, communities, and public health settings.
