COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Mechanical Engineering at UL is a one-year full-time, campus-based postgraduate program designed to develop advanced technical, analytical, and research skills in mechanical engineering. Teaching is delivered across autumn and spring semesters, followed by a substantial summer research project that concludes with a written thesis and formal presentation. The program includes a blend of lectures, workshops, hands-on activities, and guided research, supported by continuous feedback from faculty and peers. In the autumn semester, students complete core modules such as a major Research Project module focused on applying program knowledge to a real engineering problem, and Advanced Technical Communication for Engineers, which develops professional writing and publishing skills. They also select elective modules from areas including finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics, mechanics of solids, heat transfer, microfluidics, and aerospace materials. In the spring semester, students continue their research project while also studying Project Planning and Control, which builds skills in managing large engineering projects, along with additional electives such as fracture mechanics, renewable energy technologies, non-linear finite element analysis, and engineering alloys. The summer semester is dedicated to completing the research thesis, culminating in a detailed technical report and symposium presentation. Overall, the program prepares graduates for advanced engineering roles in industry and research by combining specialised technical knowledge with strong project and communication skills.
