COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Civil Engineering at UL is a full-time, one-year postgraduate program delivered on campus and structured across autumn, spring, and summer semesters. It combines advanced technical learning, research development, and professional skills training. The program includes two core modules each in autumn and spring, alongside one non-technical module per semester and three technical elective modules per semester, allowing students to tailor their studies to specialist interests in civil engineering. Learning is delivered through lectures, project-based workshops, experiential learning, reflective practice, and continuous feedback through group work and assessments. A central feature of the program is a year-long research project, which begins in the autumn semester and continues through spring and summer, culminating in a final thesis and technical paper suitable for publication. In the autumn semester, students focus on research development and advanced communication skills while selecting electives such as renewable energy systems, structural dynamics, finite element analysis, and computational fluid dynamics. The spring semester builds on this with modules in advanced structures, geotechnical engineering, energy-efficient buildings, fracture mechanics, and advanced computational modelling. Non-technical modules include international business and consulting topics, supporting broader professional development. The program develops high-level analytical, design, and research capabilities, preparing graduates for advanced roles in industry or further academic study.
