COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Applied Physics at UL is a flexible, research-focused postgraduate program that can be completed full-time in one year or part-time over two years. It is delivered on campus through a combination of lectures, workshops, hands-on laboratory activities, reflective practice, and guided research, supported by continuous feedback from faculty and peers. The program is structured around core research projects and a wide range of elective modules, allowing students to tailor their learning to specialist areas of applied physics. Full-time students complete a major research project across three stages, beginning with Research Project 1 in the autumn semester, progressing with Research Project 2 in the spring semester, and finishing with Research Project 3 in the summer semester. Part-time students complete the same structure over four semesters. Alongside the research work, students choose four elective modules in both autumn and spring semesters, covering topics such as condensed matter physics, nanoscience and nanotechnology, semiconductor processing, advanced materials analysis, computational physics, medical instrumentation, energy systems, earth and atmospheric science, and physics of materials. Additional modules focus on scientific communication, experimental design, and research methodology. Overall, the program develops advanced technical, analytical, and research skills, preparing graduates for careers in industry, academia, and high-technology research environments.
