COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Architecture program at the University of Limerick is structured over five years, with each year building progressively on design, technical knowledge, and theoretical understanding. In the early years, students focus on foundational skills through modules such as design studio, representation and drawing, history and theory of architecture, environmental systems, and construction techniques. These modules are delivered across paired semesters, allowing students to gradually develop their design thinking, visual communication, and understanding of structural and environmental principles. As students move into the second and third years, the curriculum becomes more advanced, with continued emphasis on design studios alongside deeper exploration of materials, assembly techniques, and visual culture. The fourth year introduces professional-focused subjects such as contracts, professional practice, and the relationship between architecture and society, alongside advanced construction modules and electives that allow for some specialisation. In the final year, students concentrate on higher-level design work, including a major thesis project that demonstrates their cumulative learning and creative ability. Additional advanced construction modules and elective choices further support their professional development.
