COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Social Sciences Honours Public Administration and Leadership at UL is structured to develop an understanding of how public institutions, government systems, and leadership processes function across Ireland and internationally. In Year 1, students are introduced to the fundamentals of public administration, learning how public systems are organised and how decisions are made within government structures. Year 2 expands this knowledge through modules on ethics, leadership, development issues, Irish government and politics, and research methods, alongside a cooperative education placement that provides practical workplace experience. In Year 3, students deepen their understanding through comparative public policy and European Union governance, while also having the opportunity to study abroad through Erasmus or exchange programs, gaining international exposure to public administration systems. Year 4 focuses on advanced topics such as public administration and social justice, public leadership careers, environmental policy, and Ireland’s role within the European Union. Across the program, students examine how policy is developed, how leadership operates in public service, and how government interacts with citizens and society. The degree combines theoretical learning with applied experience, preparing graduates for careers in public service, government, non-governmental organisations, and policy-related roles. It equips students with analytical, leadership, and problem-solving skills relevant to modern governance and public sector challenges.
