COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport and Exercise Sciences degree is a four-year program designed to provide a deep scientific understanding of how physical activity, sport, and exercise impact health, performance, and overall well-being. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation in key areas such as coaching science, functional anatomy, human physiology, biomechanics, sport psychology, fitness, biochemistry, physics, mathematics, and information technology. This initial stage introduces students to both theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for further study and application in sport and exercise contexts.In Year 2, the curriculum advances into more specialized subjects including muscle physiology, sports injuries, coaching science, and psychological development related to movement. Students also begin to apply biomechanical analysis techniques and choose between electives such as law, business information systems, or broadening modules to develop interdisciplinary knowledge. This stage supports a deeper understanding of movement science and athlete support systems.Year 3 continues the scientific exploration with modules on sports nutrition, metabolism, perception, cognition, and research methods. This is followed by a full semester of cooperative education placements, allowing students to gain valuable hands-on experience in real-world sport, health, or fitness settings.In the final year, students undertake a two-part research project, applying their academic learning to an in-depth investigation of a topic in sport or exercise science. They also choose from a range of advanced electives such as sports biomechanics, applied sport psychology, strength and conditioning, performance evaluation, and the "Exercise is Medicine" modules, which focus on disease prevention, clinical application, and psychological strategies for promoting physical activity.This well-rounded program prepares graduates for careers in coaching, performance analysis, health promotion, rehabilitation, fitness training, and research. It combines rigorous scientific study with practical experience, offering the skills needed to improve performance and support health through exercise and sport.
