COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy at the University of Limerick is a four-year degree designed to prepare students for a professional career in physiotherapy through a blend of biomedical science, clinical practice, and research-based learning. The program begins with a strong foundation in human anatomy, physiology, exercise science, and introductory physiotherapy skills, alongside broader health and informatics modules. In the second year, students focus on understanding and managing disability across respiratory, musculoskeletal, neurological, and cardiovascular conditions, while also developing knowledge of sociology, health promotion, and evidence-based practice. Supervised clinical placements begin, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in real healthcare settings. In the third year, learning becomes more advanced and patient-centred, with emphasis on complex conditions, community participation, chronic disease management, and further clinical education experience, supported by research methods training. The final year integrates advanced case-based learning, interprofessional collaboration, and independent research through a major project, alongside extended clinical placements. Graduates are trained to become reflective, competent, and evidence-based practitioners capable of working in diverse healthcare environments, contributing to patient rehabilitation, disability management, and health promotion.
