COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical and Industrial Chemistry at UL is a four-year program that builds a strong foundation in chemistry before progressing to advanced pharmaceutical and industrial applications. In Year 1, students study core sciences including general, organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, environmental science, and scientific computing, along with laboratory and computational skills. Year 2 deepens chemical knowledge through modules in physical, organic, inorganic, and analytical chemistry, as well as process technology, chemical mechanisms, and reaction modelling, supported by advanced mathematical training. In Year 3, students focus on specialised and applied topics such as electrochemistry, polymers, surface and analytical chemistry, reactor design, fluid flow, heat transfer, and process operations, alongside a cooperative education placement that provides industry experience. Year 4 focuses on pharmaceutical and industrial applications, including pharmaceutical formulation, organic pharmaceutical chemistry, advanced spectroscopy, mass transfer separations, batch processing, and process engineering. Students also complete a major final year research project across two semesters and choose specialist electives in areas such as chemical nanotechnology, bioprocess engineering, safety in industry, and process troubleshooting. Overall, the program integrates theoretical chemistry, laboratory practice, and industrial training to prepare graduates for careers in pharmaceuticals, chemical manufacturing, research, and advanced process industries with strong technical and analytical expertise.
