COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics at UL is an integrated program that combines advanced mathematical training with a deep understanding of physical sciences. In Year 1, students begin through a common entry route before studying core topics such as calculus, linear algebra, probability and statistics, along with foundational physics including waves, light, modern physics, and semiconductor devices. Year 2 builds on this foundation with modules in mechanics, electromagnetism, optics, thermal physics, and methods of linear analysis, alongside differential equations, vector analysis, and numerical methods. In Year 3, students progress to more advanced areas such as quantum mechanics, solid state physics, atomic and molecular physics, fluid mechanics, and complex analysis, while also completing a cooperative education placement that provides real-world experience. Elective choices allow further specialisation in physics or mathematical topics. Year 4 focuses on highly advanced and applied areas including solid state physics, dynamical systems, perturbation methods, mathematical modelling, nanotechnology, and modern measurement techniques. Students also complete a major research project combining mathematics and physics. Overall, the program develops strong analytical, computational, and experimental skills, preparing graduates for careers in scientific research, technology, engineering, data analysis, and advanced industrial applications where mathematical and physical modelling are essential.
