COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Sciences at UL is a structured program designed to develop strong analytical, statistical, and problem-solving skills for a wide range of careers. In Year 1, students build a foundation in core mathematical areas such as calculus, linear algebra, probability, statistics, and introductory computing, while also having options to explore subjects like economics, physics, accounting, or computer science. Year 2 deepens this foundation with more advanced topics including numerical analysis, differential equations, vector analysis, probability models, operations research, and applied data analysis, with choices allowing students to begin tailoring their studies. From Year 3 onwards, students either follow a Mathematics pathway or a Statistical Data Science pathway. Both routes include advanced topics such as complex analysis, stochastic processes, mathematical modelling, optimisation, and dynamic systems, alongside cooperative education work placements that provide industry experience. The Statistical Data Science pathway places greater emphasis on statistical inference, data analysis, modelling, and time series analysis. In the final year, students complete major research projects such as mathematical or statistical data science projects, allowing them to apply their knowledge to real-world problems. Overall, the program equips graduates with strong quantitative skills suitable for careers in finance, data science, research, technology, and further postgraduate study.
