COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Industrial Biochemistry at UL is a structured four-year program that combines core scientific foundations with specialised biotechnology and industrial applications. In Year 1, students study fundamental subjects including biology, chemistry, organic and physical chemistry, physics, mathematics, environmental science, computing, and laboratory skills, providing a strong base in the natural sciences. Year 2 builds on this foundation with more advanced topics such as microbiology, biomolecules, proteins and DNA, organic chemistry, and analytical chemistry, alongside quality management and continued mathematical development. In Year 3, students move into applied and industry-focused learning, including bioprocess engineering, industrial biochemistry, genetic engineering, analytical chemistry, and safety in industry, while also completing a cooperative education placement to gain real-world experience. Year 4 focuses on advanced biochemistry and biotechnology topics such as industrial biochemistry, immunology, bioinformatics, cell biochemistry, and diagnostic techniques, alongside a major biochemistry research project completed over two semesters. Students also select electives in areas such as waste management, enterprise formation, pharmacology, regenerative medicine, and host–microbe interactions. Overall, the program integrates scientific theory, laboratory skills, and industrial training to prepare graduates for careers in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, and related scientific industries, with strong emphasis on research, innovation, and applied biochemical problem-solving.
