COURSE CURRICULUM

The Immersive Software Engineering program at UL is a structured four-year integrated degree that blends academic study with extensive industry experience. In Year 1, students build foundational skills in programming, problem-solving, data-centric computing, software development, and computer architecture, alongside their first paid industry residency where they apply core software and systems development skills in real-world settings. Year 2 expands into human-centred computing, software design in collaborative environments, and ethical hacking and cybersecurity, again reinforced through further residencies focused on user interaction and systems development in practice. By Year 3, students progress to advanced topics such as scalability, performance, computational thinking, and research methods, marking the transition into higher-level analysis and MSc-level work. This year also includes major immersive software projects during residencies, giving students deep practical experience in complex system development. Year 4 focuses on advanced artificial intelligence, machine learning, and the interaction between software and real-world applications, while students complete a substantial research project across extended industry placements. Across all years, the program alternates between academic semesters and paid residencies, ensuring continuous application of skills in professional environments. The structure is designed to produce highly experienced, research-informed software engineers with strong technical, analytical, and industry-ready capabilities.
