COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Equine Science is a four-year program that combines scientific study, business knowledge, and practical horse handling skills. In the first two years, students follow a common curriculum that builds a strong foundation in science and the equine industry. Key subjects include biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, reproduction, health and disease, feeding behaviour, and equitation skills such as horsemanship and riding. Students also study business-related modules including economics, marketing, accounting, and information technology, giving them a balanced understanding of both science and industry operations. In the third year, students choose a specialisation in either Equine Business Management or Equitation. The business pathway focuses on enterprise development, risk management, consulting, and strategic management, while the equitation pathway focuses on horse training, rider development, facilities, and performance management. All students complete an extended cooperative education placement in the equine industry, gaining valuable hands-on professional experience. In the final year, students undertake a major research project and study advanced topics such as equine physiology, pharmacology, biometrics, and industry-focused management modules. Overall, the program prepares graduates for diverse careers in horse science, training, management, and the wider equine industry.
