COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Economics and Mathematics at UL combines rigorous mathematical training with a strong foundation in economic theory and applied analysis. In Year 1, students build core skills in calculus, linear algebra, probability and statistics, alongside introductory microeconomics and macroeconomics, while also selecting electives from areas such as accounting, physics, or computer science. Year 2 develops more advanced mathematical and economic knowledge through modules such as probability models, ordinary differential equations, econometrics, intermediate economics, international economics, and applied economic analysis, with additional options in numerical analysis, operations research, and data analysis. In Year 3, students deepen their expertise with statistical inference, advanced data analysis, managerial and environmental economics, and participate in a cooperative education placement that provides industry experience. Electives allow further mathematical specialisation, including analysis, geometry, or linear algebra. Year 4 focuses on advanced economic fields such as industrial economics, public finance, monetary economics, and international political economy, alongside advanced mathematical topics like stochastic processes, time series analysis, mathematical modelling, and financial mathematics. Students also complete a substantial final year research project in economics and mathematics or statistical data science. Overall, the program equips graduates with strong quantitative, analytical, and economic reasoning skills, preparing them for careers in finance, policy, data analysis, and research.
