COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science program at UL is structured to provide students with a strong foundation in both scientific knowledge and computational skills, preparing them for modern healthcare and research environments. In Year 1, students study core topics such as programming, computer science fundamentals, software development, systems organisation, discrete mathematics, and computational modelling, along with introductory software and design principles. Year 2 builds on this foundation with more advanced modules including object-oriented development, operating systems, databases, data structures and algorithms, software testing, computer graphics, intelligent systems, and statistics for computing. Year 3 includes a cooperative education placement, giving students industry experience, alongside modules in mobile application development, machine learning, project management, and professional computing practice. In Year 4, students complete major project work in computer systems while studying advanced topics such as systems analysis, software architecture, programming languages, big data, data mining, neural computing, and advanced programming concepts. The program focuses on developing strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills, with an emphasis on real-world applications of computing systems. Graduates are equipped for careers in software development, data science, artificial intelligence, and technology-driven industries, where computing plays a key role in solving complex scientific and biomedical problems.
