COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Bioscience at UL is a structured four-year program that builds a strong foundation in chemistry, biology, and related scientific disciplines before advancing into specialised areas of molecular and medical bioscience. In Year 1, students study core subjects such as general and organic chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, environmental biosciences, and scientific computing, alongside laboratory-based skills and applied chemistry. Year 2 focuses on deeper biological systems, including microbiology, genetics, molecular biology, immunology, cellular biology, plant physiology, proteins and DNA, and microbiology applications, while also introducing anatomy and physiology. Year 3 combines advanced bioscience topics such as immune system biology, cell communication, integrative physiology, and laboratory techniques with a cooperative education placement, providing real-world industry or research experience. In Year 4, students specialise further in areas such as biotechnology, regenerative medicine, cancer biology, pharmacology, drug development, bioinformatics, and host–microbe interactions. The final year also includes a major bioscience research project, allowing students to apply their knowledge to independent scientific investigation. Throughout the program, there is a strong emphasis on practical laboratory skills, research methods, and modern biomedical applications. Graduates are prepared for careers in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and scientific research, with a focus on solving real-world problems in health and medicine.
