COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics at UL is a structured program that blends core physics principles with advanced applied technologies to prepare students for careers in science, engineering, and innovation. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation in mathematics and physics, studying topics such as calculus, waves, optics, modern physics, semiconductor devices, and basic electronics, alongside optional chemistry and linear algebra modules. Year 2 expands into more advanced theoretical and applied areas including mechanics, electromagnetism, thermal physics, optics, differential equations, and partial differential equations, with additional exposure to subjects like physical chemistry, sensors and actuators, and probability and statistics. In Year 3, students begin specialised physics training in quantum mechanics, solid state physics, semiconductors, and computational physics, while also completing a cooperative education placement that provides real industry experience. Electives allow further exploration in instrumentation, physical chemistry, or earth science. Year 4 focuses on advanced topics such as nanotechnology, atomic and laser physics, solid state physics, semiconductors, and modern measurement techniques. Students also complete a major applied physics project across two semesters, allowing them to apply theoretical and experimental knowledge to real-world problems. Overall, the program develops strong analytical, experimental, and problem-solving skills for careers in research, technology, and industry.
