COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science (Education) Honours in Biology with Physics is a four-year program that integrates scientific study with professional teacher education, totalling 240 ECTS credits. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation in biology and physics through modules covering mechanics, electricity, waves, light, and semiconductor devices, alongside education-focused subjects such as philosophical and psychological perspectives on learning and digital teaching skills. Year 2 develops both scientific knowledge and teaching ability, with modules in forces, fields, earth science, microbiology, and anatomy, while also introducing science pedagogy, planning for learning, and a substantial school placement that provides hands-on classroom experience. In Year 3, students continue with advanced topics including optics, thermal physics, plant physiology, animal diversity, cellular biology, biochemistry, and ecology, while also studying curriculum development, assessment, inclusion, and diversity in education, as well as advanced pedagogy. The final year focuses on professional teaching practice and specialised science modules such as electromagnetism, modern physics, genetics, and human nutrition, combined with an extended school placement and professional development. Overall, the program equips students with strong subject expertise and teaching skills, preparing them for careers as qualified second-level science teachers.
