COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science (Education) Honours in Biology with Agricultural Science is a four-year program that combines scientific knowledge with professional teacher education, totaling 240 ECTS credits. In Year 1, students build a foundation in biology, chemistry, and physics-related topics alongside education modules focusing on philosophical and psychological perspectives on learning and digital teaching skills, while also being introduced to areas such as horticulture. Year 2 develops both scientific understanding and teaching ability through modules in soil science, animal feeding and digestion, microbiology, and anatomy, combined with studies in planning for learning and science pedagogy, as well as a substantial school placement that provides practical classroom experience. In Year 3, students continue with more advanced topics including crop and grassland science, animal production systems, plant physiology, animal diversity, cellular biology, biochemistry, and ecology, while also studying curriculum development, inclusion, diversity, and advanced teaching methods. The final year focuses on professional teaching practice and specialised scientific subjects such as agricultural biotechnology, pollution biology, genetics, and human nutrition, alongside an extended school placement and professional development. Overall, the program prepares students with strong scientific expertise and teaching skills for careers as qualified second-level teachers in biology and agricultural science.
