COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering in Design and Manufacturing Engineering at UL prepares students to develop innovative, efficient, and sustainable products while understanding how they are produced in real-world industrial settings. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation in core engineering subjects such as mathematics, mechanics, chemistry, materials science, electrical engineering, computing, and fluid mechanics, along with introductory modules in design, manufacturing, structural engineering, and mechatronics. Year 2 focuses on developing applied engineering skills through modules in operations modelling, plant automation, manufacturing processes, product design, ergonomics, engineering mathematics, and mechanics of solids, alongside industrial organisation and design methodology. In Year 3, students gain industry experience through a cooperative education placement while studying advanced topics such as engineering design, product automation, project planning and control, manufacturing information systems, and solid mechanics. Year 4 concentrates on specialised and project-based learning, including multiple design projects, simulation and modelling, measurement and quality systems, sustainable product design, advanced manufacturing systems, engineering economics, supply chain design, and medical device design. Students also choose electives aligned with their interests. Overall, the program integrates design thinking, manufacturing processes, automation, and sustainability to prepare graduates for careers in product development, industrial engineering, manufacturing systems, and engineering design roles in modern industry.
