COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Limerick is a four-year program designed to provide students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for a career in the aerospace industry. In the first year, students are introduced to foundational subjects such as engineering mathematics, chemistry, electrical engineering, engineering computing, fluid mechanics, and materials science. These subjects create a broad base in core engineering principles. In the second year, the focus shifts to aeronautical-specific content, including thermodynamics, aerodynamics, and aircraft and spacecraft systems. Students also begin developing skills in applied mechanics, design, and communication, while learning about air transport and management. A cooperative education placement, beginning in the second semester of Year 2 and continuing through Semester 5 of Year 3, allows students to gain hands-on industry experience.Year 3 continues the technical development with modules in aerospace vibrations, flight mechanics, flight dynamics laboratories, aircraft design, and advanced mathematics. In the final year, students engage in advanced aeronautical engineering topics such as aircraft conceptual design, flight dynamics and simulation, aerospace structures, and propulsion systems. A major component of the final year includes a multi-part project that spans two semesters, allowing students to apply their learning to real-world engineering problems. Students also choose specialist electives to tailor their degree toward specific interests within the field. This comprehensive program prepares graduates to work in aircraft design, aerospace systems, flight simulation, and propulsion, and provides a solid foundation for further study or research in aeronautical engineering. With a strong blend of academic learning and practical experience, graduates are well-positioned to contribute to innovations in aviation and aerospace technologies.
