COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education in Languages is structured over four years to develop both language proficiency and teaching expertise. In Year 1, students are introduced to key educational concepts through modules in philosophy, psychology, and digital competence, while simultaneously studying two chosen languages and their literature to build strong linguistic and cultural foundations. Year 2 focuses on developing teaching skills, with modules in planning for learning and language pedagogy, alongside continued language study, and includes an initial school placement that provides practical classroom experience. In Year 3, students deepen their understanding of teaching through modules on curriculum and assessment, advanced language pedagogy, and topics such as diversity, inclusion, and social justice in education, while continuing to enhance their language proficiency and literary knowledge. Year 4 emphasises professional development, featuring a second school placement that allows students to refine their teaching practice in real classroom settings, along with a module on becoming a professional teacher. Throughout the program, students consistently study two languages and their literature, ensuring a high level of fluency and cultural awareness. Overall, the course combines academic study, language development, and hands-on teaching experience to prepare graduates for successful careers as language teachers at secondary level.
