COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education in Graphics and Construction Technology is structured over four years to combine technical knowledge with teacher education and practical experience. In Year 1, students build foundational skills in design and communication graphics, wood technology, process technology, electro technology, and technological mathematics, alongside modules that introduce educational philosophy, psychology, and digital competence for teaching. Year 2 develops both subject expertise and teaching ability through advanced graphics and wood technology modules, while introducing classroom practice, subject pedagogy, planning for learning, and a school placement that provides early teaching experience. In Year 3, students expand their knowledge into construction technology, advanced design graphics, and wood processing technologies, while also studying curriculum development, assessment, diversity, inclusion, and social justice in education, with an optional Irish language module available. Year 4 focuses on professional preparation, including an extended school placement, advanced modules in graphics and construction technology, health and safety in technology education, and research-based learning through the teacher as researcher module. Students also study professionalism in teaching to prepare for their careers. Overall, the program integrates technical subject mastery with educational theory and practical teaching experience, equipping graduates with the skills and qualifications needed to teach technology subjects effectively at second level.
