COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS) degree at the University of Limerick is a comprehensive four-year program designed to equip students with core business knowledge while allowing for specialization through various major and minor options. In Year 1, students build foundational understanding across disciplines including microeconomics, management principles, accounting, marketing, and business information management, alongside a communication or language module. They also choose from broadening electives such as social and civic engagement, crisis and risk analysis, or the role of social media in social good.Year 2 introduces more advanced concepts in risk management, human resource management, finance, economics for business, and entrepreneurship. Applied business mathematics and statistics further support analytical skills. During this year, students begin to select their preferred major from options such as Accounting and Finance, Economics and Finance, Human Resource Management, Marketing, or Risk Management and Insurance.Year 3 continues with international management and financial information analysis, while allowing students to deepen their studies within their chosen major. Students may also participate in Erasmus or study abroad programs, adding an international dimension to their experience. Semester six is dedicated to cooperative education, placing students in a professional work environment.In Year 4, the curriculum expands into international political economy, company law, and strategic management. Students continue their major and may add minors such as globalisation or entrepreneurship, or pursue additional language studies. Broadening electives remain available, reinforcing interdisciplinary learning. Overall, the BBS program balances theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and global awareness, preparing graduates for dynamic careers across various sectors of business.
