COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Politics and International Relations is a four-year program that develops students’ understanding of political systems, global affairs, and governance at national and international levels. In the first year, students are introduced to the subject through foundational modules in politics and international relations, building essential knowledge of key concepts and debates. In the second year, students study areas such as comparative European politics, international relations, political theory, Irish politics, and research methods, alongside a cooperative education work placement that provides practical experience. The third year includes further specialised study and an Erasmus or exchange opportunity abroad, with modules focusing on topics such as the European Union, global political economy, capitalism and social justice, and research methods in political science. In the final year, students select from a wide range of advanced modules covering issues such as global governance, terrorism, Russian politics, nationalism, migration, gender and politics, democracy, and foreign policy, allowing for deep specialisation in areas of interest. Throughout the program, students develop strong analytical, research, and communication skills, as well as the ability to critically evaluate political systems and global challenges. Graduates are well prepared for careers in public service, policy, diplomacy, international organisations, journalism, and related fields.
