COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics at the University of Limerick is a structured four-year program that develops strong analytical, logical, and problem-solving skills through a combination of pure and applied mathematics. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules in Algebra 1 and Algebra 2, which introduce key mathematical concepts and methods. In the second year, students progress to more advanced topics such as Linear Algebra 1 and Science Mathematics 1, while also undertaking a cooperative education work placement that provides practical experience in a professional environment. The third year includes further study in Science Mathematics 2 and an introduction to Probability and Statistics, alongside an Erasmus or international exchange opportunity that enhances academic and cultural development. In the final year, students engage with more specialised and advanced areas of mathematics, including Geometry, Groups and Algebraic Structures, Discrete Mathematics, and Multivariable Calculus and Differential Equations. The program is designed to gradually deepen mathematical understanding while also developing transferable skills such as critical thinking and structured reasoning. Through a combination of lectures, tutorials, and applied learning experiences, graduates are prepared for careers in education, finance, data analysis, research, and other fields that require strong quantitative expertise.
