COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Digital Communication at University of Limerick is a four-year program that combines practical journalism training with academic study. In the first year, students build foundational skills in writing, digital media, and understanding the relationship between journalism, politics, and society, while also exploring subjects like economics, history, law, and languages through electives. The second year develops more advanced skills in television and digital broadcasting, interviewing, reporting, media law, and the sociology of media, alongside specialised areas such as magazine or sports journalism and social media analysis. In the third year, students gain valuable real-world experience through a cooperative work placement, followed by an Erasmus or international exchange opportunity that broadens their global perspective. The fourth year focuses on professional-level journalism, including investigative reporting, digital news production through the Limerick Voice project, and the completion of an individual journalism portfolio. Students also explore the relationship between public relations and journalism, as well as current challenges in the digital media landscape, and participate in intensive broadcast training. Throughout the program, students develop strong multimedia, analytical, and communication skills, preparing them for careers in modern journalism and digital media industries.
