COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Irish Dance at University of Limerick is a four-year program that combines intensive performance training with academic study and creative development. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in Irish dance technique, repertoire, and performance while also exploring choreography, Irish and world music and dance traditions, and a range of electives to broaden their artistic perspective. The second year continues this development with more advanced performance modules, collaborative practicum work, Irish music and dance studies, performing arts technology, and modules focused on anatomy, movement analysis, and vocational skills in education and community contexts. In the third year, students undertake a cooperative education placement, gaining real-world experience in areas such as performance, education, or arts management, followed by further performance training, research skills, and studies in arts and health, with an optional international exchange opportunity. The fourth year focuses on refining artistic practice and professional preparation through advanced performance and choreography modules, industry-focused training, and the completion of a final year project, either as research or creative work. Throughout the program, elective modules allow students to expand their skills and interests, ensuring a well-rounded education for careers in dance and the performing arts.
