COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA in Global Politics at University of Limerick is structured to progressively build students’ knowledge and skills over four years. In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of politics and international relations, along with public administration, global politics, and Irish politics, while also having the option to explore subjects like history, sociology, and geography. The second year deepens this foundation with more specialised topics, including international relations, development, comparative politics, political theory, global political economy, and EU governance, alongside training in research methods. In the third year, students gain practical and international experience through a cooperative work placement in the first semester and an Erasmus exchange in the second semester, allowing them to apply their learning in real-world and cross-cultural contexts. The fourth year focuses on advanced and elective subjects such as international organisations, world politics, foreign policy, regional studies, nationalism, multiculturalism, environmental politics, and terrorism, as well as Ireland’s role in Europe and EU policy studies. Students also complete a final year research project on a topic of their choice, demonstrating their analytical and critical thinking abilities.
