COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in European Studies at University of Limerick follows a flexible four-year structure that allows students to tailor their academic path while developing expertise in languages, European affairs, and related disciplines. In the first year, students begin with an introduction to European Studies alongside studying a primary language such as French, German, or Spanish, and a secondary language option including Irish, while choosing electives from areas like history, economics, law, politics, marketing, and sociology, as well as European literature and film. In the second year, students continue language development and specialise further through modules in comparative European politics and interdisciplinary electives, followed by a cooperative education placement that provides practical experience. The third year includes an Erasmus or international exchange, offering immersion in a European academic and cultural environment, followed by advanced study in EU politics, international economics, law, and social issues. In the fourth year, students focus on their chosen language, complete a final year research project, and select advanced modules across various disciplines, with the option to specialise further in European Studies topics. Throughout the program, students gain strong analytical, linguistic, and research skills relevant to European and global careers.
