COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice at University of Limerick follows a structured four-year curriculum that integrates law with social sciences to provide a comprehensive understanding of crime and justice. In the first year, students are introduced to foundational subjects such as the legal system, criminal law, criminal procedure, sociology, public administration, and politics and international relations. The second year builds on this base with more specialised modules including constitutional and administrative law, crime and criminal justice, sociological theory, organisational behaviour, leadership, and Irish and EU politics. In the third year, students gain practical experience through a cooperative work placement, while also studying subjects like law of evidence, human rights law, sociology of crime, inequality, and comparative public policy. The fourth year focuses on advanced and applied topics such as child law, dispute resolution, change management, psychology, jurisprudence, criminology, environmental policy, and European Union law. Throughout the program, students develop critical thinking, legal analysis, and an understanding of social issues related to crime. This interdisciplinary approach ensures graduates are well-equipped with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience for careers in criminal justice and related fields.
