COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Urban Data Analytics offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary curriculum designed to equip students with the analytical and community engagement skills necessary to tackle pressing urban challenges. The program’s core modules include Urban Data Analytics, Smart Climate Neutral Cities, and Geostatistics and Programming for GIS, providing students with essential knowledge in spatial analysis, urban sustainability, and data-driven decision-making. Students can tailor their learning experience by choosing either a 35-credit dissertation or a 20-credit research project, depending on their academic and professional goals. In addition to core modules, students must select a minimum of 25 credits from a wide range of optional modules, allowing them to specialise in areas such as Python for GIS, Big Data Programming, Remote Sensing, Urban Resilience and Ethics, or Sustainable Cities. Modules are delivered across the Schools of Geography and Architecture, Planning & Environmental Policy, and also include technical training from Computer Science. This interdisciplinary structure ensures students develop both technical proficiency and a strong understanding of urban systems and community dynamics. The curriculum supports hands-on learning through research-led teaching and practical assessments. Graduates will be well-prepared to work in roles that bridge data science, urban planning, policy development, and environmental consultancy, making meaningful contributions to building more sustainable and resilient cities.
