COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Advanced Artificial Intelligence equips students with a deep and comprehensive understanding of modern AI technologies and their practical applications. Key learning outcomes include mastery of advanced techniques such as deep learning, generative AI, reinforcement learning, evaluation methodologies, optimisation, and the design and deployment of AI systems. Students will gain the ability to critically evaluate AI models in terms of complexity, interpretability, scalability, robustness, and generalisability. The program ensures proficiency in applying AI to real-world challenges, with the opportunity to select from a diverse set of application modules tailored to sectors such as healthcare, audio and speech processing, time-series analysis from sensor devices, recommender systems, and human-computer interaction. Students will also develop a clear understanding of the strengths and limitations of various AI approaches, learning to match methods to appropriate use cases. Ethical and responsible use of AI is a core theme throughout, and students will enhance their ability to communicate technical findings effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Delivered full-time on-campus at UCD over one year, the program spans three trimesters from September to August and requires the accumulation of 90 ECTS credits. The first two trimesters focus on core and elective modules, while the third trimester allows students to tailor their experience by choosing one of three options: an industry internship for practical experience, a research dissertation for academic development, or a project-based module to apply AI solutions to a specific problem. These final trimester options provide flexible pathways to match individual career goals and academic interests. While dissertation and internship placements are competitive and not guaranteed, all students will graduate with strong theoretical knowledge, hands-on experience, and the capacity to make impactful contributions to the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence.
