COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Agricultural Extension and Innovation provides students with the research and analytical skills needed to identify and support valuable innovations in agriculture while fostering a commitment to ongoing reflective practice and professional development. Graduates gain expertise in facilitating knowledge transfer and exchange to support client livelihoods, with a focus on the agricultural knowledge and innovation system and the interaction between research, extension, and education as policy instruments driving agricultural change. The program develops an understanding of the economic, social, cultural, and psychological factors influencing farm household decision-making, enabling graduates to create tailored advisory responses. Students also learn how to support adult learning and behaviour change, essential for promoting the adoption of new practices and technologies. The curriculum includes core modules such as Research Methods, Agricultural Extension and Innovation, Understanding the Family Farm Business, Behaviour Change in Agriculture, Group Approaches for Agricultural Extension, and Design Thinking for Agricultural Innovation, alongside optional modules like Sustainable Agriculture and Agricultural Education. Through practical, real-world learning experiences and a Minor Thesis research project, students prepare for careers in advisory, consultancy, and education roles within public, private, and non-governmental sectors.
