COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in International Development is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and critical perspective necessary to engage effectively in the complex field of international development. The program introduces students to the latest global development challenges, policies, and debates, equipping them to engage critically with the practices and theories that shape development work. Students will explore key issues such as poverty reduction, inequality, human rights, sustainable development, political and economic reform, and social justice. Through a blend of theoretical learning and applied analysis, students will gain the capacity to evaluate development interventions, assess on-the-ground practices, and understand the broader political, social and economic dynamics at play in development contexts. The program emphasises participatory and interdisciplinary learning, encouraging students to think independently and work collaboratively. Oral presentation and group work skills are developed through seminars, workshops, and project-based learning, while students are also trained in research methods and practical policy analysis. The course supports both practitioners seeking to work in NGOs, government, or international agencies, and those interested in policy research or academic careers. Students can choose to complete a research dissertation or undertake an internship, applying their learning in real-world contexts.
