COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc in Social Sciences at UCD offers students the opportunity to explore how individuals and groups interact within society, while developing a deep understanding of human behavior, societal structures, and global challenges. Students choose the DN700 or SBU3 International pathway and then select a guaranteed Two Subject Combination, with the flexibility to change their subject choices at the end of the first year. In their first year, students build foundational knowledge in their chosen disciplines and develop practical skills in research, communication, and leadership. The course emphasizes critical thinking, encouraging students to analyse, question, and challenge beliefs and assumptions—including their own. It offers real-world learning experiences and includes the option to study abroad or complete an internship during the degree. Throughout the program, students are equipped to engage with pressing global issues and contribute meaningfully to social progress. The degree supports the development of skills necessary to address major global goals such as Quality Education (SDG 4), Gender Equality (SDG 5), Reducing Inequality (SDG 10), Building Sustainable Cities (SDG 11), Climate Action (SDG 13), and Promoting Peace and Strong Institutions (SDG 16).
