COURSE CURRICULUM

Computer Science with Data Science & Artificial Intelligence is a degree offered through the common entry Computer Science DN201 course at UCD. The program was recently renamed to emphasize the growing importance of Artificial Intelligence within the curriculum. The first two years follow the core Computer Science degree, providing a solid foundation in computer science principles and mathematics. Early modules include algorithmic problem solving, computer programming, software engineering, and statistics with Python.Starting in the third year, students focus more deeply on Data Science and Artificial Intelligence topics. Modules cover essential areas such as data science in Python, probability theory, machine learning, data mining, information visualization, programming for big data, and an introduction to AI. Practical skills are developed through hands-on experience with contemporary data tools like Hadoop, NoSQL databases, SciPy, SciKit-Learn, Matplotlib, Numpy, and Pandas. There is also an option for a five-month internship or software engineering project to gain real-world experience.In the final year, students undertake advanced topics and a major Computer Science project. Modules include deep learning, cloud computing, human-centred AI, generative AI (language models), recommender systems, multi-agent systems, and digital media ethics. The course is designed to equip students with both technical expertise and practical knowledge needed to excel in data-driven industries. This blend of foundational computer science, applied data science, and AI positions graduates well for careers in tech, research, and innovation. The curriculum is regularly updated to keep pace with evolving technologies and industry demands.
