COURSE CURRICULUM

In the Sport & Exercise Management degree, you will study a variety of management subjects and techniques over three years, designed to equip you with the skills needed to work across many areas within sports management. In your first year, you will learn the basic principles that form the foundation of the course, which are then refined and expanded in your second and third years. Students typically spend around 40 hours a week attending lectures, studying independently, and preparing for assessments.First-year modules focus on introducing key concepts such as Sports Management, Theory of Coaching, Legislation, Marketing, Sports Mega Events, and the Sociology of Sport. These provide a broad understanding of the sporting environment and its societal impact.In second year, you will begin to apply this knowledge with modules like Event Management, Economics, Psychology, and Strategic Planning. A significant part of the second year is a structured work placement, usually completed during the summer either in Ireland or abroad. This placement offers valuable practical experience and networking opportunities, enhancing your employability after graduation.The third year is about further developing your expertise with modules such as Enterprise & Development, Sports Media, Communications & Sponsorship, and Sport & International Development. You will also complete a research project that develops your skills in project design and management, focusing on current issues in the sports industry.Assessment throughout the course is varied and includes presentations, industry reports, social media videos, group debates, research projects, and formal exams. This diverse assessment approach ensures that you develop practical, communication, and analytical skills necessary for a successful career in sport and exercise management.
