COURSE CURRICULUM

The Business & Law (BBL) degree at UCD offers a rigorous and integrated curriculum over four years, blending legal and business education to equip students with a well-rounded understanding of both fields. In the first three years, students take law and business modules in equal measure, learning how these disciplines intersect and influence each other in real-world contexts. Core law modules include foundational subjects such as Contract Law, Criminal Law, Tort Law, and EU Law. In addition, students can explore specialist areas through optional modules like Revenue Law, Commercial Law, Intellectual Property Law, and Employment Law. These courses build legal reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical skills essential for legal or corporate careers.Parallel to the law curriculum, students also engage with core business subjects such as Business in Society, Principles of Finance, Economics, Business Analytics, Global Business & Business Strategy, and Maths for Business. These modules provide essential knowledge in financial literacy, strategic thinking, and economic principles, fostering the practical skills needed in any business environment.In fourth year, students have the flexibility to specialize based on their career goals, focusing more heavily on either business or law. They may also take part in clinical legal education through modules offered by the Clinical Legal Education Centre (CLEC), such as Competition Law and Advocacy & Mooting, which provide valuable hands-on experience.Due to the intensive nature of the BBL program, students are not able to take external elective modules through UCD Horizons. The academic schedule includes lectures, tutorials, independent study, and preparatory work, with assessments made up of end-of-trimester exams, essays, and group projects. Overall, the program prepares graduates for a wide range of professional roles by combining legal expertise with business acumen, making it an ideal choice for students seeking career flexibility and intellectual challenge.
