COURSE CURRICULUM

The Food & Agribusiness Management degree involves a full-time study commitment, with students spending around 40 hours per week attending lectures, tutorials, laboratory practicals, and independent study. The program is structured to build a strong foundation in science and business while providing practical industry experience.In the first year, students study core science modules such as biology, chemistry, and physics, all tailored to the agri-food sector. Alongside these, they take introductory modules in land use, the environment, agricultural economics, and agribusiness, which set the stage for more specialized learning.The second year expands on this foundation by introducing business management, applied economics, and crop, food, and environmental sciences. Students also study business law and biostatistics and have the option to take electives in food, diet and health, spreadsheet modelling, or animal science, allowing them to tailor their studies to their interests.In the third year, the focus shifts to developing technical skills in statistical analysis, spreadsheet modelling, and financial planning, as well as gaining further knowledge in food science. A major highlight is the 30-week Professional Work Experience (PWE) placement in the second trimester, where students gain valuable hands-on experience working in the food and agribusiness industry, either in Ireland or abroad. This practical experience helps students build industry networks and enhances employability after graduation.The fourth year deepens agribusiness expertise with specialist modules covering enterprise development, strategy, communications, farm business management, food marketing, agri-taxation, policy, and e-business. Students also complete a research project on a chosen topic, supervised by experienced lecturers.Assessment methods throughout the course include business plans, presentations, case studies, and traditional exams, ensuring students develop a broad range of skills applicable to their future careers.
