COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Social Science (BSocSc) program offers a comprehensive and flexible structure that combines foundational learning with opportunities for specialization. In Year 1, students are introduced to a broad range of social science disciplines through core modules in lifespan development, economics, politics and social policy, sociology, and philosophy. These modules provide the theoretical groundwork necessary to understand how individuals and societies function, as well as how policy and governance influence everyday life. Students also choose electives that allow them to explore specific interests such as social psychology, states and economies, or the social professions, offering the chance to tailor the program to personal academic goals.In Year 2, the program builds on the foundational knowledge gained in the first year by introducing more advanced concepts and critical perspectives across core disciplines like social policy, sociology, psychology, philosophy, and economics. Students continue to develop key analytical and communication skills while also choosing from a wide range of electives, including statistics and languages, which broaden their academic experience and potential career pathways. The flexibility in module selection allows students to deepen their understanding in specific areas of interest.Year 3 focuses on the integration and application of knowledge. Students complete a social research project, allowing them to engage in independent research on a topic of social relevance. This capstone experience is supported by core modules in politics and social policy. Electives in this final year enable further specialization in fields such as social work, sociology and society, applied psychology, and economics. Additionally, students can enhance their research and analytical abilities through further study in statistics, philosophy, and language. Overall, the degree is structured to equip graduates with a strong interdisciplinary foundation and the skills necessary for impactful careers in social research, policy analysis, advocacy, and public service.
